herbal medicine schools - Popular folk remedies for Babies with Colic have not been Verified ; According to the review of 15 studies done by researchers at the University of Exeter in England which involved 1000 infants, there is no efficient evidence regarding the effectiveness of popular folk remedies in the treatment of Colic in babies. Mothers are not fazed by the discovery as they have tried the treatment on several occasions and it has failed to work.
Though Colic has been reported to be responsible for babies’ non-stop crying, doctors have told parents that there is nothing wrong with their babies and with time, they will outgrow the crying spells, which is the belief of most doctors about Colic, which affects about 20% of babies in the first few months of their lives.
Moreover, crying spells and digestive upsets in babies could be triggered by other physical problems other than Colic, such conditions could be gastric reflux , protein allergies and others, which are sometimes mistaken for Colic and explains why some remedies assumed to relieve digestive problems, may not work in babies with true Colic, including alternative treatments containing fennel, herbal teas and probiotics.
Also, the lead author of the review, Rachel Perry has expressed that though there are encouraging signs of a few treatments, including fennel extract, herbal teas and sugar solutions, a better research is needed to provide a conclusive evidence to verity their healing tendencies.
